It’s your wedding, you’re excited, and there is soooo much to do. Invariably couples have long lists of questions they forget to ask, so we’ve done some of the hard work for you with our Top 10 list of questions you should ask every photographer before you hire them. You’ll probably have lots more questions for us (which is fine!) but these are some of the most common ones.
1. Q. “How long is the coverage?”
A. Every Artsnic package is for full day photography, up to 12 hours between 10am and 10 pm. Additional or later/earlier hours may attract an additional charge. Talk to us if you have specific needs.
2. Q. “Who will our photographer be and do you specify that in your contract?”
A. You will be meeting with your photographer during your intial consultations, and yes, your photographer is specified in the contract. The only reason we might have a different photographer in would be serious illness or injury, in which case we have a wide network of professional photog-raphers we can call on. You would be advised in advance if this were to happen, and shown their work. (We’ve never had to do this!)
3. Q. “What if something happens to our photographer on the wedding day?”
A. Just in case… we work with an assistant who is also a second photographer – they can take over if need be. (Again, this has never happened!)
4. Q. “How do we know we can count on you?”
A. There are so many scary stories in the news about shady operators…. Sara (Artsnic’s owner and Principal Photographer) is a full time professional photographer and is an Accredited Member of the AIPP – Australia’s leading professional photography association. Artsnic is also working towards accreditation with ABIA and in 2010 (our very first year as anABIA member) was a Finalist for the 2010 ABIA awards in the Photography category.
5. Q. “We don’t want any nasty surprises – what if Artsnic’s prices change between now and our wedding?”
A. Once your contract is signed and we’ve received a deposit, your package price is guaranteed. If we lower our prices you will receive the lower price.
6. Q. “Who decides what goes into our album?”
A. You do! But we give a lot of guidance to help you out – choosing photos for the album can be very difficult, especially when you’re presented with hundreds to choose from. We offer an album design service (included with every album) that has us do a “concept” design, then you review and can approve, or change photos, add or remove layouts, etc. Before we order your album you’ll know exactly what it’s going to look like. Again, no nasty surprises.
7. Q. “I have a mole, nose, freckles I don’t like – do you do retouching?”
A. First, we do our best to take photos that emphasize your best qualities, and minimize anything you don’t like. That comes through in the posing and techniques we use for photography. We do provide some retouching as part of our basic service, included with every photo we sell. Extensive retouching may attract an additional charge.
8. Q. “How do we pay for all this wonderful stuff?”
A. In order to confirm your wedding photography with us (and set aside the date) we require a deposit of $500. We accept payment by Cash, Direct Deposit, Eftpos, Cheque (except for final payments), Direct Debit, Visa, MasterCard and PayPal. A payment schedule will be set for you on signing the contract, which we’ll discuss with you to suit your budget.
9. Q. “How many photos do you take?”
A. This is a number that varies greatly, depending on the couple and the wed-ding, but is generally more than 500.
10. Q. “Do we get all the photos on a disc?”
A. We provide digital proofs within 2 weeks of your wedding – these are small watermarked photos intended for your convenience in choosing your favourites. You’re welcome to share these photos with family and friends via email, facebook, etc. Bear in mind though – they are proofs – not finished photos. They are not the same quality as the finished photos that will go into your albums or prints you purchase from us (i.e. no retouching, no black and whiteor other effects, no sharpening, colour correction – etc.) If you wish to purchase the “hi-res” photos they are available (included in some Wedding Collections – as an add-on to others).
1 more question … #11 Q. “When can we make an appointment to come talk to you about our wedding?”
A. Artsnic is open by appointment only for all your consultations. We take appointments Tuesday – Sunday, including evenings, for your convenience.
