We really don’t like the usual boring blah blah speech that accompanies most “About Us” pages, so we thought we’d let you get to know us with a little Q&A!
Q. What’s your position with Artsnic?
Sara: Owner, Principal Photographer, Chief Cook and Bottlewasher.
Brian: Principal Photographer, Techie Guru, and the guy that handles all the wacky lay-on-the-ground / jump-up-on-the-wall shots.
Q. How did you get involved with photography?
Sara: Like many photographers, I’ve had a camera in my hand as long as I can remember. My first camera was a brownie (you’re probably not old enough to know what that is!) – I loved taking photos with it when I was a kid. But my parents would never put film in it for me, so I wasn’t very productive.
Brian: I studied photography in Uni, then dropped it for a period of time. Then I got very involved again when I met Sara. Little did I know that “helping with the business” was Sara’s way of getting cheap labour.
Q. If you weren’t a photographer what would you be?
Brian: I’d keep my day job. Or I’d go back to Uni and study Architecture.
Sara: Who knows? Life is an ever-changing adventure, and I just try to go with the flow!
Q. What do you love about photography?
Sara: So many things – obviously the creative outlet, being able to express myself in a way that touches people. It’s such a privilege to be invited into my clients’ lives through my art.
Brian: I love the challenges. There are lots of technical challenges, but on a wedding day there is the added challenge of anticipating moments that will make the day.
Q. What sort of equipment do you use? (this one is for the camera buffs out there
)
Sara: My primary camera is a Canon 5d MkII. I have a love affair with my 70-200 lens, but it’s too heavy to use all day for a wedding, so my 24-105 is my workhorse lens.
Brian: I shoot with a Canon 1d MkIV. And I generally have that attached to that heavy 70-200 lens. As long as I’m carrying all the gear anyway, I might as well enjoy that lens!
Q. What’s your style?
Sara: Pretty casual and laidback (except when I’m serious), quiet (except when I’m loud). I’m inspired by what’s around me, so “style” changes. I write with too many exclamation points and smilies!!!
Brian: Minimalist.
Q. Chocolate or Vanilla?
Sara: Chocolate. With chocolate sauce and Kahlua. And chocolate flakes if you have ‘em.
Brian: That sounds good.
